Jean Nelissen en Steven Rooks

On the 16th of May we were at the start of the Jean Nelissen Classic in Vianden, Luxembourg. On Friday we already went south and stayed on a campsite in Germany. The weather was rainy and it had rained there during the whole week. However, the forecast for Saturday were good, so we counted on that. A beautiful bike tour with hardly any flat pieces. Just in a nice descent and there you went up again. We were with a little group with different climbing capabilities so little groups were formed quickly. The men with who I started the tour were also all going to do the 165 km tour. But at the end of the day one could see again who is the strongest sex. When returning to the campsite the men were all already showered. My computer showed a 181 km and 4300 height meters for the day. A nice trip. Fortunately I had a good cycle, although I had to watch a bit climbing, not too tear too much.

The next Holiday weekend we went to France for a Olympic Distance race. Since we weer enjoying cycling in the hills now we cycled the 110 km version of the Steven Rooks Classic in the South of Holland and Belgium on our way down. A beautiful tour again which started in Maastricht (Netherlands). I have been cycling in Limburg for many times but I came at places I had never been before. During the tour there was a climb time trial on the Drovenval ( a climb I had never heart from before). The times were clocked by means of a bike chip. Eventually it appeared I had the fastest time of the women. That gives a good feeling again. After the tour we went on with our trip to France. I had hoped to do the triathlon there but I had trouble with running again. I still tried a few minutes in the morning but that was already not possible. with pain in my heart I decided not to start and went back home. Exactly a year ago, I did here my last triathlon and it had been very nice if I had been able to close off this injury issue and start a new episode, unfortunately no!

Running is still not possible and it keeps on bugging me. Too be honest I am a kind of done with it. On advice I have conacted sports doctor Peter Vergouwen. I was lucky and he could see me pretty soon. He has taken the time to hear the story and to examine me. According to him it is not a hernia or anything like that, however he believes my abductors are way too weak. I have to do excercises now every day and run-walk minutes as long as it is pain free. Furthermore, sportsphysiotherpaist David Everts helps me in the recovery of my current problem areas.

Not something to be happy about. Last year I was on the sideline for most of the season and it seems to be repeated now. Especially now when the season is full on, I am remembered to it more. To make the decision to stop with the sport is withheld by the facts that I have a few races I still would like to do and also that I do not want to end my triathlon career like this. Sympathic and supporting e-mails help to keep on "fighting". I am trying to focus on recovery again and I keep on hoping that one day I can enjoy doing a triathlon again.

Well for a change  on my way down South. Cycling  Tilff -Bastogne-Tilff on Sunday.
